How do I add an SVG diagram to Google Docs?
Convert the SVG to PNG, then in Google Docs on a computer choose Insert > Image > Upload from computer and select the downloaded PNG. Check it at its final page width: sharp labels can still be too small to read.
Convert your SVG to PNGPrepare for the page width
Decide how much of the page the diagram can occupy. Broad empty margins inside the SVG viewBox make its useful content smaller in a narrow column. Tighten the drawing area in a copy of your source or simplify the diagram. Keep the SVG source for edits: the exported PNG is one flat image.
Check the preview for missing fonts or linked images. Compare transparency with a solid background if the SVG contains pale shapes.
Export and insert
- Select the SVG file or paste complete SVG code and inspect the preview.
- Choose an output width suited to the final page placement, keep the aspect ratio, and download the PNG.
- Open the PNG locally to check for clipping. In Docs on a computer, choose Insert > Image > Upload from computer and select it. Google's image insertion help documents this menu.
- Resize it to its final document width and review the whole page or a print preview.
The converter makes a local PNG in your browser. It does not open your document or upload the image to Google.
Check the placed image
| What you see | Inspect | Next test |
|---|---|---|
| Sharp but tiny labels | Placement width | Give the diagram more space or move details into document text. |
| Soft enlarged edges | PNG pixel width | Export a wider PNG and compare at the same document width. |
| Tiny drawing in a large image | Unused viewBox margins | Tighten the source canvas and export again. |
| Awkward text flow | Image placement | Select the image and compare available wrapping options. |
Google's image help describes wrapping and positioning. These controls change layout, not tiny labels inside the picture; some position controls are unavailable in pageless documents.
Try a compact test diagram
Paste this self-contained SVG into the converter, then place its PNG at your intended document width. If the labels are too small, give the artwork more room before merely adding export pixels.

Will a larger PNG make small labels readable?
It may fix pixelation, but it cannot make the placed diagram physically larger. Increase the placement width or simplify labels.
Can I edit individual shapes in Docs?
Not in an inserted PNG. Edit the original SVG and replace the export.
